about the renaissance
The word Renaissance means rebirth, which the era was seen to be. It was a rebirth of classical beauty and ideals, an end to the perceived darkness of the Middle Ages.The time span of the Renaissance roughly spans the 14th to the 17th century, beginning in Italy and moving its way up north gradually. The Renaissance focused on increased secularization and intellectualism. Most people relate the Renaissance to art and recognize big names such as Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
Building on the perspective stylings of earlier artists such as Giotto, Renaissance artists tried to perfect perspective by using the vanishing point and scale. Classical subjects such as the birth of Venus or great Greek heroes became popular, infused with Christian themes.
